Bash Vocal Curl Mail Checker (Linux only)

One of my favs, superior to the “You’ve got mail” phenomenon. When called this will say “You have new mail in your inbox” then will say who the message is from and whatever is in the subject line. Great for not wasting time checking for spam. Requires festival, linux, and gmail-checker to call the script on new e-mail. Replace YOUR_EMAIL with… your e-mail (ie johndoe@microsoft.com) and YOUR_PASSWORD with your e-mail’s password.

#!/bin/bash echo “You have new mail in your inbox,” > gmailreport ##echo ” ” >> fungmail.txt curl -u YOUR_EMAIL:YOUR_PASSWORD –silent “https://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom” | tr -d ‘\n’ | awk -F ” ‘{for (i=2; i<=NF; i++) {print $i}}’ | sed -n “s/
